Another weekend, another movie. This time we caught World's Fastest Indian starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Pretty cute movie. I keep cringing thinking that something awful is going to happen. His money getting stole, bike getting wrecked, him dying. Something. But....it never happens.
It's a very pleasant movie with some very cute moments. Good stuff. Well worth the rental. We got it from Nat's "Free" coupon that comes with the Blockbuster online account. It was on the bottom racks at Blockbuster and didn't have all that many copies, so you might have to look for it. It's worth your time.
"Oh...and while I'm gone , you can go ahead and pee on my lemon tree."
Last night, Nat and I sat down and opened up the Blockbuster Online envelope and watched The Matador with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. Pierce was terriffic in the movie and it's more than watchable because of him, but there are a few "left field" scenes. The whole stroll through the hotel lobby in his skivvies and then jumping into the pool with a can of beer scene was cute, until the shark showed up. I guess it's all about Pierce "wigging out" or whatever, but it just seemed out of place.
Again...definately worth your time. If only to check out Pierce's mustache (and yes...I know. Blockbuster online is lame, but it's Nat's account and I'm just along for the ride. I do, however game her "queue" every once in a while!)
I forgot how much I liked "Flirting with Disaster". Nat and I caught the last hour of it on Starz or something while we were cooling down from our bikeride this afternoon in Naperville. It's up on my top 10 probably...along with another Stiller pic: Cable Guy. The parents steal the show in this, but Ben's in rare form.
I spent most of the afternoon yesterday in and around the Sheffield Garden Walk where Nat and I didn't do all that much gawkin' at the gardens, rather, we mostly stood around and drank keg beer (with ice!) out of red Solo cups. I spent quite a bit of time by myself (as usual) as Nat flittered around and played "flippey cup" with the others. If you've never been down there, it's pretty interesting. The party were were at was right on Sheffield, just south of Dickens. The parties pour out from the front porches to the parkways and sidewalks. This year it seemed that Cornhole has finally arrived in the Lincoln Park Dude Scene. I spent most of my time on the front porch (which was prime people watching). I was having my own personal Go Fug Yourself with all the passers-by. (Nat says that I'm not in any position to be critiquing anyone's 'drobe...she's probably right).
Getting back the porch...it was great people watching, but it was
awful in that I had to put up with everyone's music. The folks across
the street musta had Aerosmith's Greatest Hits
on the ole ipod because there was 6 straight Aerosmith cuts. After
"Back in the Saddle" came on (and some dudes were rockin'), I finally
had enough. I went across the street, went up on the porch and asked
if they had anything else in the collection. I've had enough
Aerosmith. That may not have been the best idea I've ever had.
Sure enough...they put on Eagles: Hell Freezes Over. Teaches me not to tangle with the beast, eh?
What's one thing that you hope to do or accomplish before the end of this year?
Umm....I'd like to drop a few el bees, I guess. Isn't that what everyone wants to do except Carson Daley.
I've been on a bit of a "Band" kick. Here's Rick Danko a few years after "The Last Waltz". Boy...can he deliver, huh?
Every year since about the middle of my college years, I've been helping put together a group outing up to my folks place in Coloma, Michigan for some water skiing, grillin', (possibly some chillin') and usually some laughs. The first year, we called it the "Coloma Film Festival", because we demo'd some films that we had made. (yes, yes...I know...NERD ALERT!!!)
So, that film making has stopped (too bad!), but the "Film Festival" is still rockin' on. We've added the name "Club Coca" to the title, and the crowd ebbs and flows, but it's still going strong.
The 2006 version of the Club Coca Film Festival is set for one week from today. I think I might head up there Thursday and work from there. (we have wi-fi) [actually....the neighbors have wi-fi]
Funny how things change. This year there will be no films but there will be mostly the same crew and at least one pregnant woman. Growing up sure is interesting.

This is a sweet flick. Saw a sneak peek back in beantown before the release and everyone got to chat... read more
